Lightsaber tutorial
This tutorial is for Photoshop 5.0, but works in other versions of Photoshop as well.

1. Start by drawing a line in the angle you want your lightsaber. This will work as a help line. 2. Pick the darkest of the red shades and draw the shape of the lightsaber following the help line on a new layer.

3. Pick the second darkest shade and fill the inside of the lightsaber by using the Line tool- Weight: 1 with the Anti-aliased box checked. Make sure you don't get any pixels drawn outside of the dark red. 4. Repeat step 3 with a lighter shade.

5. Repeat step 3 and 4 with the lightest colour. 6. Go to Image > Adjust > Brightness/Contrast and set the Contrast to +50 to make the lightsaber brighter.

7. Duplicate the lightsaber layer, put the duplicated layer behind the original and go to Filter > Blur > Blur. Repeat two or three times. Erase all blurry parts that are outside of the doll. 8. Draw the handle.

9. Create a new layer behind the lightsaber layer and draw a blur of red. This will be the lightsaber's glow. 10. Use the smudge tool to soften it out a bit. The glow should be stronger the closer to the lightsaber. Then erase all pixels outside of the doll.

11. Change the layer to Screen with Opacity: 60%. 12. Create a new layer and add some more glow here and there.

13. Change this layer to Colour Dodge with Opacity: 50%. 14. Finished! Same prosedure can be done with any colour.
